"Soulvenir-snow globe" emerges as a conceptual extension of Ya Hsuan Hsiao's project Soulvenir. Employing the form of the snow globe, this series interrogates the intersections of memory, materiality, and belief. The internal landscapes—rooted in East Asian religious visions of the afterlife—offer a nuanced exploration of humanity’s collective and individual imaginings of the post-mortem realm.
Positioning the snow globe as both object and metaphor, the work engages with the idea of the memento as a vessel for lived experience and personal narrative. Simultaneously, it disrupts conventional perceptions of scale and temporality by transforming static scenes into theatrical micro-worlds. These condensed dioramas, captured in moments of perpetual suspension, invite a multisensory engagement, heightening the tension between intimacy and the surreal. Through this interplay, the series evokes a meditative reflection on memory, mortality, and the otherworldly.
