Soulvenir-Snow Globe-Heaven, a continuation of Ya Hsuan’s Soulvenir-Snow Globe art project, is an artistic practice that weaves together the concepts of souvenirs, tourism, imaginations of the afterlife, and intermediate space. The artist likens life to a journey, at the end of which we arrive at a place that holds all our memories and experiences—the "Soulvenir Shop."
Focusing on the realm of ultimate bliss as the antithesis of hell, the artist draws inspiration from the narratives and forms of Taiwanese temple sculptures as well as various idealized landscapes, including fairylands, Paradise, utopias, and heaven. Ya Hsuan pays close attention to the depictions of color, architecture, attire, and mineral-like textures within these sacred spaces, translating them into a series of works filled with brilliant luster and rich, multicolored textures. These blissful landscapes are not merely depictions of an idealized afterlife; they are visual practices exploring memory, desire, and imaginations that transcend reality.
